An Occupational Therapy assessment can be carried out at home or within an education or community setting.

next steps

what we do

how we do it

The assessment can take many forms, but will usually involve:

  • A discussion with your child about the things that they like to do and the things they find more challenging.

  • A discussion with you (parents/carers) about your concerns and observations related to your child’s abilities and difficulties

  • The Occupational Therapist will engage your child in play as well as observe them trying a variety of day to day activities.

  • A supportive discussion about which functional goals your child, and you as their parents/carers, would like The Southsea OT to support with e.g. using cutlery, getting dressed, riding a bike.

No matter what the assessment involves, The Southsea OT always endeavours to make the session relaxed and fun.

Written recommendations will include strategies that can be implemented straight away, as well as other suggestions that may require further support from The Southsea OT in the form a Therapy Package.

The Southsea OT offers a free 10-minute telephone consultation to parents / carers to discuss your child’s needs and how The Southsea OT can help. Please contact us to arrange a conversation.
